IO CONNECT COM Server - Description
The serial module IO CONNECT COM Server is available in one expansion stage.
The data signals of the serial module IO CONNECT COM Server are equipped with robust ESD protection and a switchable, integrated cable termination. the COM server offers extended fail-safe security for open, short-circuited or terminated but inactive inputs.
The IO CONNECT COM server is programmed and controlled via LAN.

IO CONNECT COM server interfaces
The serial module IO CONNECT COM Server offers a shared LAN / WLAN interface for configuration and communication. This interface can be addressed via a virtual COM port or via a simple TCP connection. The connection control and the communication via the LAN / WLAN take place via TCP / IP.
The serial interface of the IO CONNECT COM server can be completely configured and controlled via TCP / IP. The output signals, pin assignment, direction of data flow and other settings can be configured over the network using free software (FORSIS server).

Below you will find the functions of the serial module of the IO CONNECT COM Server series.
The serial module IO CONNECT COM Server offers a full RS232 interface in the basic configuration. Flow controls such as RTS / CTS and Xon / Xoff as well as modem control with DTR / DSR are possible. 7-8 data bits, 1-2 stop bits and parity Off / Odd / Even can be set.
The serial interface of the serial module is addressed via the TCP port 10001. The receiver inputs are connected to ground with 5 kOhm.
Instead of the RS232 interface, an RS422 or RS485 interface can be configured via network in the serial module IO CONNECT COM Server. In RS422 / RS485 operation, a total of 6 different operating modes are possible, which are divided into half-duplex, full-duplex and mixed mode with 1, 2 or 4 wire pairs.
In all 6 modes, the transmission lines can be deactivated or, in the case of half duplex, switched to receive. All wire pairs can also be terminated with 120 ohms via the network. No external resistors are required for termination or for generating a bias voltage.
A loopback mode can be activated for testing the software and hardware of the serial module IO CONNECT COM Server. All data that were sent to TCP port 10001 for serial transmission are sent back to the host. The data is not forwarded to the external serial interface. The external serial interface is deactivated in this mode and the data line is placed in a high-resistance state.
Internal termination resistors can be switched on in RS422 and RS485 mode. These resistors are configured via TCP / IP and the configuration is permanently saved in the EEPROM. the termination resistors are usually 120 ohms.
To reduce the electromagnetic radio interference, a slew rate control can be activated on the serial module in order to improve the edges of the signal transmission. This slew rate control is configured via TCP / IP. The configuration is permanently saved in the EEPROM.
