WINDOW XP embedded

Windows XP embedded is based on the same kernel as Windows XP Professional. This way, all applications and programmes that run under Windows XP Professional should also generally work under Windows XP embedded without modifications.

Thanks to its embedded enabling features (EEF), Windows XP embedded is perfect on flash memory and thus for use in even the roughest industrial environments or vehicles.

General advantages:

  • Reduced size – depending on image, around 500 MB (compared with XP Pro: about 2 GB)
  • No pagefile – allows operation on flash memory
  • Various, individually configurable write filters
  • Resistant regarding undesired changes to the system or viruses
  • Increased failure safety regarding hard disks
  • Easy to distribute on several devices
  • No activation required

2 write filters integrated by factory (EWF and FBWF), registry filter (for unrestricted use in domains if write filter activated)

Like Windows XP Pro

Regular security and feature updates (always up to date); new versions can be downloaded via the homepage (protected member area); in-house development provides high level of flexibility and reaction speed in the event of problems – Windows XP embedded images are developed directly by us – not by third parties, which often is the case. We provide help with the configuration (on request, also on site); individual recovery solutions available – also for non-FORSIS PCs.

All users have very own requirements of their operating system and thus also of the write filter used. EWF allows the protection of the flash memory on the kernel level and thus can only protect complete partitions. FBWF (file-based) allows the protection of individual files or the definition of directories whose content may be written (e.g. useful for anti-virus programmes). EWF is already configured and activated by the factory.

FORSIS Windows Embedded Standard

In late 2008, Microsoft launched a new version of the ageing operating system Windows XP embedded. Basically, this is an advancement of WIN XP embedded. Therefore, a Windows XP Kernel clearly is the basis. This is not an embedded version of Windows Vista. This will probably only be launched in 2011.

According to Microsoft, the following functions are integrated in Windows Embedded Standard (WES) compared with Windows XP embedded (XPE).

  • Microsoft Silverlight
  • .NET Framework 3.5
  • Remote Desktop Protokoll (RDP) 6.1
  • Windows Media Player 11
  • Internet Explorer 7

Since Forsis is also constantly advancing existing images, most of the “new” functions have already been integrated in our PCs with Windows XP embedded for some time (e.g. RDP 6.1 and Internet Explorer 7).

In order to remain state-of-the-art, we decided to fully support both versions, i.e. we offer current versions of both operating systems for all our PCs (also for already supplied PCs). For XP embedded, this currently is Version 3.31 with Service Pack 3; for Windows Embedded Standard, this is version 1.01. As always, you obtain the usual service from us. We extend our images in such a way that your application runs optimally. The licence costs are identical for both operating systems.
